1. "Social justice is justice exercised within a society, particularly as it is exercised by and among the various social classes of that society. A socially just society is based on the principles of equality and solidarity, understands and values human rights, and recognizes the dignity of every human being(Wikipedia)."
"Social Justice, also known as economic justice, is a term describing the redistribution of wealth for the common good of all(Conservapedia)."
2. "Social justice is justice that follows the principle that all individuals and groups are entitle to fair and impartial treatment. Social justice attempts to prevent human rights abuses. Social justice is based on notions of equality and equal opportunity in society(U.S. Legal Definitions)." I chose this site because lawyers fight for social justice everyday, which means that it somehow needs to be defined in order for a ruling to be submitted by a judge.
"Social justice is defined as "... promoting a just society by challenging injustice and valuing diversity." It exists when "all people share a common humanity and therefore have a right to equitable treatment, support for their human rights, and a fair allocation of community resources." In conditions of social justice, people are "not be discriminated against, nor their welfare and well-being constrained or prejudiced on the basis of gender, sexuality, religion, political affiliations, age, race, belief, disability, location, social class, socioeconomic circumstances, or other characteristic of background or group membership" (Toowoomba Catholic Education, 2006)." (Social Justice and Human Rights) I chose this site because one of the top sites that came up. Also it was posted by a professor from Appalachian State; who teaches about social justice.
"The fair and proper administration of laws conforming to the natural law that all persons, irrespective of ethnic origin, gender, possessions, race, religion, etc., are to be treated equally and without prejudice(Business Dictionary)."
3. a. The major similarity among all of the definitions is the idea of justice for all. That no matter who you are, you are entitled to being treated in a just way. A difference between the definitions is that they discuss social justice in ways that apply to people who come from different educational backgrounds.
b. The definition from U.S. Legal Definitions is the one I find most correct. One of the reasons why I believe it to be correct is because its a very clear and brief definition of what Social Justice is all about.
c.I believe that all of the definitions cover the major points of Social Justice and are able to give people an understanding of what Social Justice is.
4. The short story "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas," is full of injustice and a few people try to stand up for those being miss treated, but no one listened to them. So they ended up walking away from Omelas. There was no equality and human rights were violated.
